    Dangote cuts petrol to ₦1,165 and diesel to ₦1,570 at the gantry

    Effective 6 August, the refinery dropped its gantry price for petrol by ₦50 and for diesel by ₦80 — the first cut since the July suspension pushed petrol up ₦140 in a single reversion. Abuja pumps had already begun easing ahead of it, with NNPC Retail down to ₦1,299 and MRS to ₦1,265.

    The CBN central rate closed at ₦1,363.35 to the dollar, 11% stronger than twelve months ago and 4.7% stronger than at the start of the year. The parallel rate sits at ₦1,415, a spread of ₦51.65 or 3.79% — narrow by the standards of the last five years.

    Landed cost for imported PMS reached ₦1,223.32/litre to 29 July, calculated with Brent near $90 and the naira at ₦1,367 — above the ₦1,215 gantry price at the time. Local refining is now the cheaper source, which is the crux of the import-licence argument.

    Dangote returns to naira sales — at ₦140 more per litre

    After suspending gantry loading on 14 July and quoting in dollars at $0.779/litre, the refinery reverted to naira pricing on 22 July at ₦1,215, up 13.02% from the ₦1,075 that applied before the suspension. Private depots had spiked to ₦1,200–1,230 during the gap.

    A pot of jollof costs 15% more in Wuse II than in Nyanya

    SBM Intelligence's June 2026 jollof index puts the ingredients for one pot at ₦29,200 in Wuse II and ₦25,450 in Nyanya — a ₦3,750 gap across twenty-odd kilometres of the same city. Nationally the index rose 14.6% in eleven months to ₦29,578.

    Food inflation rises to 17.52% while the naira strengthens 11%

    June CPI put food inflation above the 15.91% headline rate and higher than May's 16.96%, in the same month the CBN official rate reached its strongest level in a year. A stronger currency has not reached the market stall — logistics, insecurity and sticky pricing sit between them.

    Food inflation climbs for a fifth straight month, to 17.52%

    June CPI put food inflation above the 15.91% headline rate, up from 16.96% in May and from a low of 8.89% in January. The V is the story: last autumn's harvest pushed food inflation to a multi-year low, and it has risen every month since as those gains are handed back. The naira reached its strongest level in a year over the same period.

    Seventeen Abuja feeders listed for customer compensation

    Appendix 2 of the July 2026 order names Band A feeders in Wuse II, Kubwa, Jabi, Karu, Garki, Asokoro, Gwarinpa and Katampe Extension that failed their 20-hour commitment between 1 and 21 June, with the streets each serves. Wuse II delivered 19.95 hours; Karu 18.14.

    NERC issues AEDC's July 2026 tariff order — Band A still ₦209.50

    ORDER/NERC/2026/063 takes effect. Band A household rate remains ₦209.50/kWh before VAT, frozen since July 2024; Bands B–E frozen since December 2022. The order covers the FCT and Nasarawa only — Niger and Kogi have transitioned to state regulators. It also names 17 Band A feeders whose customers are owed compensation for undelivered supply.

    Joint Revenue Board issues rent relief guidance

    Guidance of 7 April 2026 requires tenants to declare rent accurately, restricts joint tenants to the portion each actually bore, and pro-rates rent spanning two years of assessment. The relief remains 20% of annual rent capped at ₦500,000, tenants only.

    The Nigeria Tax Act 2025 takes effect — CRA abolished, rent relief introduced

    Gazetted 26 June 2025, in force from 1 January 2026. The Consolidated Relief Allowance is gone entirely — the phrase appears nowhere in the Act. The zero-rate band widens from ₦300,000 to ₦800,000, six bands run 0% to 25%, and tenants gain a new deduction of 20% of annual rent capped at ₦500,000.
